The outbreak COVID-19 (Coronavirus) infection is of great concern and a considerable challenge for practitioners and public health authorities.

Following the initiative of other leading scientific journals, we believe that it is timely, important, and appropriate to share with our Journal of Hepatology readers, as soon as possible, all information available on the possible impact of the infection on the liver and on patients with liver diseases.

We have already received and will very soon publish manuscripts from China regarding the implications for the liver during the COVID-19 infection. But we are also interested in swiftly publishing manuscripts related to the impact of the infection in patients with underlying liver disease, in particular those with advanced liver disease, and also reports on the outcomes of the implementation of specific preventive measures to be adopted in these patients.

We therefore invite authors to send their original data on these topics. We will provide authors with a rapid evaluation and, if their articles are accepted, free access to their content. Of course, as an obligation to our community, we will ensure the same high standards of scientific review for these articles.

As the situation evolves, we will continue to assess this approach in the Journal of Hepatology, with the objective of offering a rapid and transparent service to our community regarding COVID-19 and related topics.
